I started my landscape journey with Pike Nurseries at the age of 15, where I fell in love with plants and the landscape industry. With this newly discovered passion for landscape and design, I decided to attend The University of Georgia to study landscape architecture. While in school, I had a great opportunity, so I left college to go travel the country building golf courses where I learned so much more than in just the classroom! I travelled the country for five years building golf courses all across America.

I got homesick and decided to come home where I went back to work in the landscape industry. In 1993, I started with a company where I ran their seasonal color division. Then in 1995, I had a great opportunity to move to another company where I was in charge of the landscape at all venues for the 1996 Olympics here in Atlanta. I did every single venue: the horse park, the Centennial Park, and even the “Ted” which was the stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies.

After the Olympics, I went back to school and received a certificate in landscape design from North Metro Tech and worked for various companies designing and installing award winning landscape and hardscape projects. Over my career, I have won several Best Design awards for the Atlanta Home Show.

At this point, I felt it was time to venture out on my own, and started my business in January 2016 and we are still going strong today. In 2018, we also took home the Best Design award, and it felt just a little bit better seeing my own company name on the award for the first time!

We now have 3 full-time landscape designers that can design any style of space including a modern look to a good old fashion Southern living space. Being from the South, born and raised here in Georgia, I wanted a company that could create the traditional Southern Style but also include a wide variety of other looks. Southern Landscapes and Designs employs a team of designers and managers with over 37 years of experience.
